A truck collided with 19 vehicles at an intersection before crashing into a primary school classroom in Sydney’s south-west this afternoon, leaving four people injured.
CCTV footage captured the moment several people standing outside a church were narrowly missed by the out-of-control lorry and trailer.
The driver was trapped in the cab but not critically injured after crashing into an empty classroom at a Moorbank primary school.
It is believed 19 vehicles were damaged at the junction of Newbridge Road and Nuwarra Road in Moorebank.
It is understood the lorry went through a set of traffic lights without stopping, colliding with several vehicles.
Three people were taken to hospital with minor injuries and others were treated at the scene.
“I was expecting much worse injuries,” said Sean Coles, acting NSW police chief.
“To have minor injuries to individuals involved is pretty incredible,” he said.
The truck driver was extricated from the crash after 40 minutes.
A NSW Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said there was a lot of debris that flew through the truck’s front window, including a pole that narrowly missed the driver’s head.
The truck was later recovered from the classroom, which was badly damaged in the crash.
