Famed American magician David Copperfield has been accused by 16 women of sexual assault and inappropriate behavior, according to a Guardian investigation in the US.
Copperfield’s lawyers have denied all allegations of wrongdoing and inappropriate behaviour. They described the allegations against him as “false and completely baseless”. They also said there had been “numerous false allegations” against him in the past, but that none had been proven. They noted that he had never been charged with a crime.
The lawyers said the inappropriate behavior towards women “was the opposite of everything he stood for and worked hard for”. They said Copperfield was a major advocate for women’s rights even before the rise of the #MeToo movement.
