A young man has died and another is in critical condition after a car collided with a freight train in Cairns.
The 18-year-old man was a passenger in a Holden Rodeo that collided with the freight train at the intersection of Bruce Hwy and Swallow Rd in Edmonton around 6.30am on Monday.
Paramedics treated the teenager and the 40-year-old driver for life-threatening injuries before they were taken to Cairns Hospital.

There were no injuries on the train.
Queensland Police said the teenage passenger died from his injuries Wednesday morning.
The driver remains in hospital in serious condition.
Anyone with information, CCTV or CCTV is urged to contact police.
The crash investigation is ongoing.
