A seven-month-old girl has died in hospital from serious head injuries after being bitten by her family’s pet dog, according to police. Officers were called to a property in Coventry just after 3pm on Sunday, West Midlands Police said on Wednesday.
Police and ambulance officers arrived at the home within minutes, the force said in a statement. The girl was taken to hospital by ambulance from the scene of the accident on Shorncliffe Road, but died a short time later.
Police said the dog was not classified as a dangerous breed and was removed from the home and destroyed. No further details about his breed have been released.
The police statement read: “A seven-month-old girl suffered serious head injuries after being bitten by the family’s dog at the home.
“She was treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to hospital for further treatment. Unfortunately, she died shortly after. Our thoughts remain with her family at this devastating time.
“The pet dog, which is not classified as a dangerous breed, was removed from the home on Sunday and humanely destroyed.
