Minister Anthony Albanese became emotional today as he said the teenager accused of a terrorist offense in Newcastle had threatened his own family.

Jordan Patton claims he live-streamed his entry into Labor MP Tim Crackanthorpe’s office and Newcastle Museum wearing tactical gear and armed with knives on Wednesday.

The 19-year-old is accused of preparing a terrorist attack.

Albanese was teary-eyed at a news conference today when asked about the matter, claiming Patten had made threats against his family.

“This documentation that has been produced is very disturbing, including threats not only to Labor MPs but to others, to my family,” he claimed.

“This is yet another reason why families should be banned from the media.

“It is something that raises concern, a very direct threat. I commend the security services and the police for the swift action they took.”

Krakanthorpe and his team were unharmed in the incident as the teenager was quickly apprehended by museum staff.

His brother William Patton and his aunt Emma Patton described him as a mentally ill and “troubled” boy who they did not believe was capable of what was alleged to have happened.

Patton did not apply for bail when he appeared in court yesterday and will appear again in August.
