After his arrest, the police were notified of a manifesto that the 19-year-old had sent to the media and some public figures.
The man was charged by the Joint Counter Terrorism Task Force today.
“A number of items were seized during the search of the man and these have been taken for further analysis,” NSW Police said in a statement this morning.
“The man was taken to Newcastle Police Station and has now been charged with other acts carried out in preparation or planning an act of terrorism, contrary to section 101.6 of the Criminal Code Act (CTH).”
He was refused bail and is scheduled to appear at Newcastle Local Court later today.
Police say there is no ongoing threat to the public.
After the incident yesterday, Krakanthorpe said no one was injured.
“I understand there was an incident in Newcastle today,” he said.
“I have spoken to the police and they are dealing with the situation and have assured me that no one has been hurt.
“I was notified that the individual was in and out of my office briefly, leaving before making any contact with my staff.”
