Judy Murray has criticized her son Andy’s medical details being leaked to the media “by someone you thought you could trust”, and reiterated that the two-time champion is still not over Wimbledon.

The 37-year-old’s participation in the tournament, which starts next Monday, was thrown into confusion on Sunday after he was prematurely ruled out. The governing body of the men’s game, the Association of Tennis Professionals, said Murray was “sadly out of Wimbledon” after undergoing back surgery on Saturday. However, X’s post was immediately deleted and it later emerged that it was published on the back of a report in the Telegraph which suggested Murray would be out for six weeks following a spinal cyst procedure.

The PA news agency understands that Murray has not yet made a decision on whether he will compete and will make an assessment over the next few days.

Judy Murray criticized the leak. “When your personal medical information is leaked to the media by someone you thought you could trust. So disappointing,” she posted on X. “And — FYI — it’s not off yet.”

The Briton has not yet given up hope of making a farewell appearance at this year’s tournament before a possible withdrawal after the Paris Olympics, but his participation at Wimbledon looks highly unlikely as he underwent surgery three days after withdrawing from his match from second round against Jordan Thompson at Queen’s on Wednesday.

The Telegraph reported that Murray was set for six weeks on the sidelines after the operation and the ATP Tour – an official source – tweeted shortly after the story broke: “Following spinal cyst surgery, Andy Murray unfortunately it’s outside Wimbledon. Rest and recover Andy, we will miss seeing you there.
