Iconic keyboard player Richard Tandy dies just months before Electric Light Orchestra world tour

The beloved keyboardist of the iconic rock band Electric Light Orchestra has died aged 76.

Richard Tandy’s death was announced by the band’s frontman Jeff Lynne as a tribute to his “dear friend”.

Lin wrote on Facebook: “It is with great sadness that I share the news of the passing of my long-time collaborator and dear friend, Richard Tandy.

“He was a remarkable musician and friend and I will cherish the memories we had together.

“Sending all my love to Sheila and the Tandy family.”

No cause of death has been given.

Tandy has been with the band for over 50 years, joining in 1972 as bassist before becoming the band’s keyboardist.

Just last month, ELO announced a farewell tour for fans, promising to play all their greatest hits, including Mr Blue Sky, over 27 dates across America from August 27. It is not yet known if this tour will continue.
