“Go, baby, go,” a woman could be heard saying in a dashcam recording as police yelled at them to get out of the car.
The footage then showed the car entering rush hour traffic, narrowly missing a tram on Smith Street.
“What’s that about driving?” a man could be heard saying on the camera recording.
The car appears to have veered onto the wrong side of the road while being chased by police.
The footage then showed the car running a red light, nearly hitting a pedestrian, before colliding with a Ford Ranger in Parkville.
After stopping, the couple tried to flee the crash, but were quickly stopped by police.
Nearby resident Liz Dorman saw the final moments of the chase.
“I ran to the window and saw a car facing the wrong way,” Dorman said.
“He had crashed into a parked car and was smoking.”
The car was allegedly stolen from an address in Melbourne’s south-eastern suburb of St Kilda a day earlier.
