Car thieves run over one of their own in bungled Coopers Plains burglary

Three hooded figures broke into Mark Trueno’s Coopers Plains workshop to steal his valuable car collection on Friday.
One man took an angle grinder to the rear of the tank, while another tried to turn the military vehicle hastily, crushing it in the process.
“They came prepared. They’ve got a crowbar, a grinder, a torch, obviously everything but their own brains,” Trueno told 9News Queensland.
The driver got out of the vehicle, rummaged through several drawers and fled while the injured man was pinned against a pole.
“The video surveillance reminded me of that Alone at home where there are clown criminals who just do things over and over again, just wrong,” Trueno said.
Trueno said the thieves still managed to make off with the keys to three cars worth more than $500,000 and full of sentimental value.
“It’s really upsetting because I mean, these are two of my dream cars from when I was a kid,” Trueno said.
“Then just seeing someone break down the doors and try to get a 12 ton military vehicle from them foils their plan.”
The tank is currently being restored to raise money for the Tough Times Foundation, which builds wheelchair accessible vans.
