British teacher pens heartbreaking final X post to announce death from cancer

A British mother-of-two wrote a heartbreaking final post to break the news of her death from cancer.

Manchester teacher Kate Rackham was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2016 aged 39, despite having no known risk factors. She later developed incurable metastatic or secondary breast cancer.

“If you’re reading this, it means I’m dead,” she said wrote to his 14,000 followers on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Thursday.

“But don’t cry for me. I have lived my life on my own terms, the way I wanted.

“I joined X because I needed an outlet, what I got was so much more. You made me feel validated in my feelings and much less alone.

“Thank you.”

Rackham amassed thousands of followers as she shared updates on her cancer journey on the account, Cancer Teacher.

She was also a co-founder and trustee of the Fight to Be Heard Foundation. – which aims to raise awareness of incurable secondary breast cancer, where the primary cancer has spread to other parts of the body.

The most common are bones, liver, lungs and brain, according to Cancer Australia.

The five-year survival rate for women with metastatic breast cancer at first diagnosis is 32 percent, compared with an average of 91 percent for all breast cancer patients, according to the Australian Institute of Health and Human Care (AIHW).

Rackham’s latest health update came on June 7, when she revealed that doctors told her there was “nothing more we can do.”

“Now I’m home, where I want to be, with Mark and the girls. Surrounded by love, family and friends. Everyone is rallying around and I have so much support,” she wrote.

“Despite everything, I feel blessed.”
