A group of major Australian retailers have struck a $1 deal in a new salvo for online shopping.

OnePass has reduced its membership to $1 a month for 12 months for unlimited free deliveries at Kmart, Target, Bunnings, Officeworks and Priceline.

New members will be able to sign up for the deal, but existing members will miss out.

Tess Chapman, a full-time working mother of two from Mornington, shops online for convenience and is estimated to save $100 a year on supplies by signing up for the deal.

The End of Financial Year Flash Sale starts today and ends at the end of the month.

The deal comes as Australians increasingly turn to online shopping.

According to Australia Post, consumers are making more frequent but smaller purchases online than before, with an average basket size of $98.10.

“Repeat purchases strengthened as the number of purchases per household increased,” Australia Post said in its latest state of the trade report.

“Households who shopped 26-51 times a year increased by two percent, while the group of most frequent shoppers who made more than 52 purchases a year increased by one percent.

The National Courier also found that delivery speed was an important factor, with 68 percent of shoppers abandoning their cart if the delivery method was too slow.
