Man who jumped from truck on Gold Coast highway allegedly on drugs and unlicensed

A 27-year-old man retained after jump from a moving truck on a Gold Coast Hwy He was allegedly driving while under the influence of drugs and without a license.
The police chase began when other drivers reported Timothy Russell for allegedly driving erratically in the Ewingsdale, near Byron Bay, around 12.30pm on Tuesday.
Four cars were hit when Russell eluded police, crossed the New South Wales border with Queensland and drove the wrong way on the Pacific Mwy.

Witness Troy Barch said Russell failed to stop despite serious concerns for the safety of other drivers
“There were cars backing up to get off the road … he wouldn’t stop,” Barch said.
Raymond Fall’s truck was among those damaged as he drove home from work.
“It was just a big bang … it almost pushed me into the concrete barrier,” Fall said.
Russell’s truck was traveling on one rim after police used a tire inflation device.
The 27-year-old was filmed jumping from the truck around 2pm near Yatala.
A large number of policemen swooped in and arrested Russell in the copses off the busy road.
He appeared at Southport Magistrates’ Court on Friday charged with a range of offences, including driving without a license and being impaired by intoxicants.
Police say they found a glass smoking pipe in the car.
Court documents show Russell was out on bail earlier this month for alleged violent crimes.
He has not applied for bail and will be back in court next month.
