Urgent warning for Woolworths shoppers: Check your Everyday Rewards points now

[ad_1]

A new warning has been issued on Woolworths customers for their Daily rewards accounts.

The alert comes as a new hoax text targeting the supermarket’s Everyday Rewards members began circulating.

The message is similar to one sent to Coles shoppers in recent weeks claiming their reward points were expiring.

Coles customers were immediately wary of the announcement, given that the retailer has no rewards or loyalty program.

However, given that Woolworths has more than 14 million Everyday Rewards members, account holders are at a much higher risk of falling victim to a clever scam.

The text of the scam, which appears to have been sent by the supermarket giant, reads: “Woolworths Rewards: Your account has 3,022 points which expire in 3 working days. The link includes the words “Everyday Rewards SMS” — and has been confirmed to be a scam.

Woolworths customers are now being encouraged to avoid clicking on links sent in correspondence.

“Smishing or SMS scams are a popular way online criminals get you to tap a link,” Woolworths said.

“SMS scams are often specially designed to look like they are from a legitimate organization and encourage you to confirm your details to claim a reward by tapping on a link contained in the message.

“The link may take you to a website that asks you to verify your account details by entering them on the website, or even compromise your phone’s information by downloading malware.”

What to watch out for

  • Contains instructions for clicking on a link, pop-up window, or attachment
  • Create a sense of urgency by trying to rush, scare or entice you
  • Request sensitive, personal and/or financial information
  • Are from individuals or organizations that would not normally contact you

I doubt?
