Jose Mourinho has opened talks with Fenerbahce over the role of head coach, the Turkish Super League club said on Saturday, as the Portuguese manager looks to return as coach after was fired by Roma earlier this year.
“Negotiations have begun with Jose Mario Dos Santos Mourinho Felix for the position of coach,” the club said in a statement to the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP).
The traveling coach, who has managed some of Europe’s biggest clubs, is ready to take over a side that finished second in the Super League – three points behind champions and Istanbul rivals Galatasaray. If appointed, Mourinho will replace Turkish boss Ismail Kartal, who has conceded just one defeat in the league, although six draws have proved costly in the title race.
Mourinho, who has won trophies with the likes of Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Manchester United, will be tasked with helping Fenerbahce win their first league title since the 2013-14 season.
The 61-year-old also helped Roma win their first European trophy when they won the third tier Conference League Europe in 2022, while he also led them to the Europa League final the following year, losing to Sevilla on penalties.

But he was sacked in January when Roma were ninth in Serie A. He was replaced by former Italy international Daniele De Rossi and Roma eventually finished sixth to qualify for the Europa League.
